Happy Jesse

We got close a couple of times, in May and November, but yesterday we did it. We justified getting a bigger milk tank by shipping more milk than our old tank would have held. Now on to another goal. Our hens also did well yesterday, laying 990 eggs.

Happy Birthday Carrie

Today our little Care Bear turns 15! And she had to get up early to go to work at the chicken barn, where she has been working for about a month now. And I might add, she is doing really well there and enjoying it too. Imagine, after listening to 3 daughters telling me how hard it was to scratch eggs, we finally have one that finds it easy. Congratulations Carrie, and have a great day!

And the finished product....very nice!

And Sarah set up her village...

Did Chris and Joyce Sail?

On Friday night, cousin Chris and his wife Joyce stayed with us on their way to catch a boat. They were heading to Newark, New Jersey to board a cruise ship heading to Puerto Rico. We had a nice visit with them, but they kept worrying about some storm that might cause them some trouble. We hope all went well, and that they enjoy their cruise. They should have sailed at 4:00 PM today.

Mike and Taylor came to visit!

Last Sunday Mike and his son Taylor drove down from the Eastern townships in Quebec to come for a visit. They left on Wednesday, and I am finally starting to recover. We ate some good food, Mike cooked all the meals when he was here, and Taylor was right there helping.

They even helped gather eggs, once, and that was enough. For all of us. We had a few beers, drank some wine, played a few games even. Then I think we drank a few more beers. On Tuesday, we drove up to Fredericton to see Vicky, and had a few beers, and pizza. Then we came home and had a few more.

We also got a little time in on the laptops, when we felt like talking to each other. We used our new toy, Skype.

Happy Birthday Roma, З Днем Народження Рома

Monday, December 14th was also Roma's birthday, so we had a little party for him. We brought a cook all the way in from Quebec, to cook his supper.

Понеділок, 14 грудня також з дня народження Роми, тому нам довелося трохи стороною для нього. Ми привезли кухаря всю дорогу з Квебеку, щоб приготувати вечерю.

You can tell from the glow of the candles that he is getting old.
Ви можете сказати від напруження свічок, що він старіє.

Chickens and Eggs

I haven't said too much about the hens yet this year, so when I was recently asked how we fit all the eggs in our fridge, I decided I should take a few pictures. The 1040 hens came on November the 4th, and started laying within a week. 2 eggs, then 4 eggs , then 8, 16....the last few days they have been up over 980 eggs a day. They are doing well.

This is the cart we gather with. And no Mary Ann, they won't all fit in the fridge.

Happy Birthday Victoria

Today our little Vickster turns 21. Now she is at legal drinking age in the United States. She is on her way here for a birthday breakfast, candles in the eggs, etc. I'll get a picture then. Have a good day, Vicky!

I guess it was candles in the bagel. Two and one for 21.

Christmas Lights

Last Friday, the 4th, (see, I'm all out of order) we put up our Christmas lights. That would be before the snow on the 6th, and before it got so cold that our fingers froze. Imagine that, putting up lights on a nice day. We are sure glad we got them up, it has been so cold this week, but on the up side, we are now getting into the Christmas spirit, (or spirits, depending on who we are talking about). Jim, here are the pictures you requested.

Bye Bye Melissa and First Snow

Last Saturday we took Melissa to the airport for her return to Quebec. It was a great 3 months and we will miss her. Carrie is looking forward to going to her house at the end of January.

These 2 pictures I took in the van, bringing her home in September and taking her back last week.

And then on Sunday, the 6th, we had our first snow fall. And winter has stayed with us since then. Here is Carrie with her new best friend.

Happy Birthday Sarah (Belated)

On Monday, December the 7th, we celebrated Sarah's latest birthday. She said it was her 29th, but those of us who know, know better. I guess I got caught up in the celebration, and forgot to put her picture on the blog. Actually my excuse is that I wanted to keep things in proper order. Imagine that. But I had to hear from the peanut gallery. Anyways, we had a great supper and a lovely cake, and Sarah did a great job blowing out ALL the candles.

No counting candles...

November 26, 2009

It's hard to imagine that we can't remember what we did 2 weeks ago, but we finally figured out that this was the day that I emptied the manure pit for the last time this year. Got to have dates right, I checked my blog to see when it was last year (Nov. 15th) so I figure if I had enough room in the pit last winter, I should be OK this year.

Then it was time to wash the spreader and pump, and store them for the winter.

November 21, 2009

Poor Emma would feel badly if she knew how many people asked me to update my blog, perhaps because they are tired of looking at her. So my apologies, but I'll try to get stuff updated. On November 21st, a former employee, Marty, came out to the farm with 2 big buckets of live lobsters. We were glad he warned us that morning that he was coming, so we got everyone in and had a good feed. Sheila and Art, Grandma, Vicky and Brad, Stacy and Gilbert, Melissa and her friend Carolane, Roma, Jesse, Carrie, and Marty too.

Here is Roma at his first Canadian lobster boil, Melissa with her first lobster, and Art doing what he does best.

And Melissa cooking...

And Melissa giving the lobster the finger....

And, "Hey..it worked!"

After the lobster was cooked and eaten, Brad entertained us with some unique fireworks...Fun

The Question....

Who is cuter than Emma with the missing 2 front teeth?

I guess we'll have to wait for all the grandkids for the answer.

Українське пиво.... Ukrainian Beer

We picked Roman up at the airport last night in Saint John. He was quite tired after spending almost 24 hours on planes and in airports. But he must have done his homework, as he brought us 3 kinds of beer from his native Ukraine. What a good start to his employment here!

Weekend in Halifax

This past weekend we decided to let the girls play hookey from school and we drove over to Halifax on Friday morning. After a few hours of shopping at the Mic Mac Mall in Dartmouth, we crossed the bridge into Halifax, and did some site seeing. Then out to Jaqueline and Gareth's for supper and a sleepover. It was good to see Anne Marie and Stuart when they came over too.

The next morning brought more shopping, at Bayer's Lake and then into the Halifax Shopping center. Then on to home, but we couldn't resist stopping at Peggy`s Cove, my favourite place to visit in Nova Scotia.

On Sunday we were still in the touristy mood, so we scooted down and checked out the Hopewell Rocks.

Remembrance Day / 2009

Today we gathered again at the Norton Legion to honour and remember our serving and veteran and fallen soldiers. Afterwards we went to Fernhill Cemetary to visit Grandpa's grave (and Grandma's Dad's too). Then on to the Three Mile, for beer and lunch. We stopped at the Cenotaph in Rothesay on the way home.

Grandpa's medals and his ship. Yes, I should have ironed it first.

We placed our poppies and Grandma got a flag.

Carrie is relaxed now, after all her hard work placing wreaths at the legion.
