Happy Birthday T J

As of Saturday, August 23rd, this cool looking dude in the shades is finally as old as his wife. Which I hear is closer to 50 than 0! Too bad you didn't make it to the reunion, but I hear you had a great time anyways. Happy belated birthday.

Happy Birthday Grandma

Grandma turns 80 today. On Sunday we had a small party for her at a cottage that our good friends Lloyd and Gloria let us use, overlooking the beautiful Bay of Fundy, out near Duck Pond beach. We saw fog. But a good time was had by all. We had a barbecue, and walked down to the beach. Stacy made Grandma a cake, and Grandma managed to get all the candles blown out.

Great Blue Heron

I was quietly working away up at the shed today, preparing for a new concrete floor, when I noticed I was being watched by a bird. He was watching me pretty closely and never moved so I decided to get my camera. I think I have mentioned before that I should have a cell phone with a camera. He was camera shy and tried to sneak away, but I got a few pictures before he decided to use his wings.

Buddy

This is Buddy, a rabbit Carrie adopted after the school tours. She had to redo his cage because he kept chewing through the plastic mesh we had on it. Maybe we should get a female and start breeding rabbits and send them up to Glassville? And speaking of nuts, this sweet looking heifer is really nuts.

Bulldozing

We had a dozer in for a few days doing some land forming and leveling. He did quite a job getting a new field that we had cleared ready for tile drainage. He also land formed behind our other house and it looks very good. It is nice to have a bulldozer around every so often.

New Barn, New Truck

Cooling off in the pool

Sarah & Carrie enjoy the pool on one of the hot afternoons we had this past week. Hot and humid!

The corn is growing

David went back to Ottawa this morning, after helping us hay. He worked hard while he was here and we will miss him. The corn was about a foot high when he got here 4 weeks ago. It may have been dry, but the corn likes the heat. The barley is not doing too badly either!

Brigitte came to visit!

We had the pleasure of a visit with Brigitte and her two children, Oscar and Xavier. They stayed with us Monday and Tuesday night, we drank some wine(not the kids), and reminisced about old times. Brigitte remembers, among other things, Tanya's first day of kindergarten. In case anyone is interested, here is a picture of us in 1987, when Brigitte, Sari, and Gloria were Canada World Youth participants, and we were a host family. Tanya stayed to visit with her, and Stacy came over and made cherry pie. Emma and Madilyn played well with Oscar and Xavier, and Carrie kept busy looking after everyone.

Back from Boot Camp

Saturday we picked up Carrie at the Saint John Ferry Terminal, after she had spent 2 weeks in basic training with her cadet flight at CFB Greenwood in Nova Scotia. She had a great time and was even up in the air in a glider. here is the picture of the Princess of Acadia coming in with all the cadets aboard, and one of her and her best friend Jessica, who is a sea cadet. She went to the CFB Shearwater in Halifax. Funny thing, in this information age, both friends joined cadets without the other's knowledge, and both ended up on the ferry heading to their respective camps as a total surprise to each other.

Done Haying

We finished up haying on Thursday, one of our faster years as it was good weather . Still no pictures of anyone mowing, but here is one of Jesse getting ready to ted, and a couple of Sarah raking. It looks like Sarah was trying to run over the photographer!


Here is Jesse building a load. He usually does it with one hand and talks on his cell phone with the other.

Here is David doing what he loves..stacking hay. As long as he has his I-pod and lots of water, he is good to go




Here we are coming down one of our steeper hills. David found it exciting just trying to stand up, yet build a load.
Dan and Brad had fun stacking one day. Brad wore a target for awhile, but he still kept getting hit after he took it off.

What's that old guy doing up there? There must have been a bale crooked or something!


Here is one of Jesse hauling a wagon ahead in the barn so we can unload it. We managed to get all the wagons through this year without tearing anything apart in the barn. Thanks to

Tanya always enjoyed unloading hay..but she goes too fast for the old guy. But then there are those that thinks she goes too slow. Watch out for the holes in the wagon floor Tanya.

Jesse and David stacked all the wagons in the field, but they still got to help out in the mow too. This is the last load, but we could have fit another few thousand bales in. James and Garrett deserve mention for their hard work unloading and stacking in the barn too. Too bad they missed the photo shoot.

Five Islands Clams

We unloaded our last hay just before lunch today. Stay tuned for hay pictures. Ashley arrived last night with a peck of freshly dug clams, so there was no better way to celebrate our being done haying than with a huge feed of boiled clams...and beer. We couldn't eat them all, so we shelled the rest, and froze them, and when Grandma gets back from Vancouver she can make us clam chowder. Now everybody is heading to Lakeside to go camping.

New Feed Tank

We got a new feed tank this week too, to allow us to feed another ration to our heifers, and also to replace the tank that is now going to be used for the chicken feed.

Victoria doing something

It was good to have Vicky home from Fredericton a few times this past week. She brought her boyfriend Brad, and as well as helping Vicky clean the pool, he was a great help haying.

Shavings

We got a break from haying for a day this week, it was a little damp...not nearly as damp as we needed it to be as we have had no rain in ages. We took advantage of the day to fill up with shavings, which we use for bedding. Here is Jesse pushing some up out back and David pushing some down to the lower barn. We got 8 loads that day, out at the local cedar mill, so we should have enough in for a bit.

Oops..

We have all done it..plugged the pump..so why isn't Jesse smiling? He actually got off easier this time than another time I remember.

Today would have been Grandpa's 84th birthday... We are thinking of you Dad.
